Good is not enough
As a result, we unfortunately had to reject
many good papers.
IMHO, conferences (in computer science) should be used to bring many many many many many people together. But by being selective they pretend to decide between good and bad research, which, however, is in conflict to the sentence above added to rejections. I'd prefer if PCs would rather organize more parallel session which would also serve the purpose of attract people to attend. Authors' effort should concentrate on submissions to journals that ensure quality of research in an iterative review process (compare to the one-time shot in conferences). While applying for a conference it would suffice to send a short abstract (0.5-4pages) only.
